Climate Change
Declan has a genuine interest in climate change and
is committed to supporting companies and communities
in promoting climate change awareness and providing
leadership in developing low carbon solutions and
adaptation to climate change impacts. Declan
established Partnership for Change (PFC), a
not-for-profit education and awareness initiative,
to build leadership and awareness on climate change
and assist in the transition to a low carbon
economy.
On November 14th 2008, Declan held a major
international climate change and global warming
conference in Cork city with participation from both
Irish and international speakers including some of
the worlds leading scientific experts on climate
change, public health and environmental policy.
International experts included amongst others:
• Dr. R. K. Pachauri, Nobel Laureate and Chair of
the UN IPCC panel,
• Dr. James Hanson, Director of NASA Goddard Space
Studies,
• Dr. Vicky Pope, Head of Climate Change Advice, Met
Office, Hadley Centre UK,
• Professor Hugh Montgomery, University College
London
• Professor Colin Woodroffe, Lead Author IPPC 4th
Assessment Report, Australia
An important aspect of the conference for Declan was
the participation of the youth, which was
facilitated by the creation of a sponsorship
programme for second level schools and college
students allowing 120 third-level students from
eight universities across Ireland in addition to
some forty students from twenty secondary schools
throughout the region to attend the conference.
Declan has also organised a series of lectures and
visiting experts to address both the business and
public sector on climate change and the green
economy.
